In order to operate a UK flagged vessel commercially, she must comply with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) code of practise for small commercial vessels. This is commonly known as coding.
As a YDSA nominated surveyor, I am authorised to assess GRP vessels (sail and power) up to 24m to ensure they comply with the code.
Initially this will require inspections both in and out of the water. A non-compliance list will then be generated. Guidance is then offred to ensure the vessel fully complies with the code.
All necessary paperwork is then sent to the YDSA for checking and the issue of the coding certificate. The certificate is valid for five years, although there is a requirement for a mid term inspection during the third year.
